LITTLE PICTURES OF A GREAT COUNTRY
A slide presentation by Wanda Bolanowska-Higdon
of her collection of Polish postage stamps issued in last 30 years
Postage stamps were first introduced in Great Britain in 1840. Twenty years later stamps made their appearance in the Congress Kingdom of Poland. Almost immediately after the appearance of postage stamps, many enthusiastic collectors and designers of the stamps were born. On these little pieces of paper one can see flags and symbols of countries, pictures of historical events, famous peoples, great art, sport, entertainment, something for children, nature and so on, so on, so on….

In her presentation, the speaker will show selected Polish postage stamps covering different subjects. Stamps issued to celebrate special occasions, anniversaries of historical events, beauty of Polish nature or contributions of Polish people to the world of science and culture. These Little Pictures can remind us and teach us the history and the beauty of Poland and the Polish people.

Refreshments will be served following the presentation.
