Polka - The Polish American Cultural Anthem?,

Polish Arts Club of Buffalo program February 17, 2016 will host Joe Macieląg the well known Polonian activist and musician will speak at our February meeting on "Polka - The Polish American Cultural Anthem?, " a walk through the history of polka music and its association with America's Polonia. There might be some who still remember his orchestra's weekly TV shows on WGR Channel 2 during the 1960's in addition to their performances at various dance hall and church venues throughout Western New York and Canada. Having lectured on the polka genre in the past, he is mentioned in Keil's "Polka Happiness" book, Kae's "Crystal Beach Live" book, featured in an article of Voices: The Journal of New York Folklore, New York's Polish newspaper Nowy Dziennik, and interviewed on Public Radio for a documentary entitled Voices of New York Traditions. The Meeting will be held 7 PM February 17, 2016 at the Harlem Road Community Center 4255 Harlem Rd Amherst NY 1 block South of Main St. . Refreshments after the Program.
